Mirrors made out of rust, wood, and well... more mirrors - all which "reflect" you in real time using tiny motors and shadows. If you haven't seen his work, run there. If you have, you'll love a "non-reflective" piece called "X by Y".
I think he's hit or miss.. but in his first show since the NYC waterfalls, this one definitely hits. The shadow splitting on the first floor was fun; the "after image" on the second floor was beautiful once you figure out what's going on (stare directly at the metal ball, relax, and don't move your eyes).
Newell (unknown to me) never finished a painting - he worked on these for decades - constantly changing colors and adding layers until his death in 2006. Check out the wood supports - they LOOK 60 years old while the paint looks new (because it is). read my review.
Why are simple black and white photos from the late 70's on "The Top Five"? - because they are some of the best black and white photos I've ever seen. There's something so completely magical yet completely normal in these.
Walk to the very back of the gallery for a fantastic film where a chessboard-rigged-piano (each space of the board is attached to a key on a piano) accompanies an orchestra as the game is played. (and yes you need to watch the WHOLE 40 minutes).
