Learning to sculpt

While the work to remake "the two percent" is only just beginning, I've already started planning the video to introduce it.  Because the next movie will actually be a series of shorts, I thought that now would be a great time to do something I didn't have time to do in the last video: claymation.

A few claymation websites recommended "Van Aken" plastalina clay.

Here are the destroyed remains of my first attempts at sculpting a face.  It was a crushing blow to my confidence to discover that I could not sculpt anywhere near the level I thought I could when I had this idea.

In order to continually work on my sculpting chops, I grab a piece of clay to play with while I'm watching TV. Tonights goal: lips.

Here is a short list of YouTube sculpting tutorials I've been studying - some are sections of multi-part videos.

This is probably my 5th full effort attempt.  I use a nail as my sculpting tool - it's surprising how much you can do with the flat end of a nail.
