Simplifying contemporary art galleries in New York City

Gallery Tour

This weekend I took two separate tours.  The first tour was for my girlfriend's parents - Linda & Roger (soon to be pictured on the right). The second tour was with my co-worker Ann and her boyfriend Joe.

We all saw:

Primary Atmospheres: California Minimalism 1960-1970 @ David Zwirner
- especially to see how James Turrell compares to Anthony McCall later.
Roy Newell @ Carolina Nitsch
William Daniels @ Luhring Augustine
Anthony McCall @ Sean Kelly

I've invited them to leave comments on this post about their experience.

This was my first contemporary art tour. Thank you David for explaining everything to us!

Primary Atmospheres: California Minimalism 1960-1970 @ David Zwirner
Like: interesting use of lights, color and shapes for the time period.
Dislike: the triangle light projection.

Roy Newell @ Carolina Nitsch
Like: layered texture of the paint. Certainly not work that can be duplicated
Dislike: all quadrilateral shapes

William Daniels @ Luhring Augustine
Like: the use of aluminum foil, photography and oil paint along with the multidimensions of color
Dislike: wished the artist's pieces were largers, like wall-size

Anthony McCall @ Sean Kelly
Like: this really gave closure to his work that I saw at the church in Govenor's Island. I left like I was dream-mode when I walked into the foggy projection
Dislike: none. this was my favorite part of the tour!
